The Young Panthers Are Gaining Valuable Experience

The Lincoln County Boys Basketball Team is loaded with Freshmen and Sophomores in 2026. If's fair to say that they are going through growing pains, but at the same time are gaining valuable experience. There are times when a coach would dream of putting a young team on the court, but may feel an obligation to it's current Seniors. Coach Robert May doesn't have that problem this season, and he gets the rare ability to actually build for the future without worrying about those pressures. The 'Young Panthers' get to go out every night and gain more and more experience.

Currently, the are several underclassmen that are getting significant playing time, which include Freshmen Hayden Davis, Kamden Porter, and Elliot Austin. According to Max Preps, Davis leads the team in Points and Field Goal Percentage, Porter leads the team in Assists, and Elliot is 2nd in Field Goal Percentage and 3rd in Points. These three freshmen, as well as several other underclassmen, are gaining a lot of experience. Especially, when they are constantly playing against Juniors and Seniors on the other side of the ball. It's easy to see how much this will payoff in the future. We just need to be patient!!

The team does have a few upperclassmen, but they are minimal. In fact, the boys basketball team has just one senior in Alex Banks. In my opinion, he is probably the one senior you would hand select to be in this situation. He has the ability to be a leader, who is selfless, and can assist Coach May by keeping up a positive spirit among the team. Banks is also a dedicated 3-Sport Athlete, who continues to be a leader for Lincoln County High School. He will earn high praise, and will deserve to be the center of attention come Senior Night.

In addition, Junior Dawson Mosteller is seeing a good amount of playing time, and he provides experience and speed while on the court. According to Max Preps, he is currently 1st on the team in steals, 2nd in points, and 3rd in Rebounds. Also, Junior Jayden Miller is 1st in Rebounds, and will be another upperclassmen to watch as this season progresses.

In conclusion, it's hard not to appreciate what the future holds for the Lincoln County Boys Basketball Program. We are getting the opportunity to see several young players, who will certainly flourish in the future. The waiting game is tough on everyone, especially the head coach, but we all should sit back and admire the art while it is being painted. The final product is going to be worth the wait.
