Jillian Starcher (Sophomore Year)
The Girls Volleyball Team is ready for a big year in 2025, and they will rely heavily on Junior Setter Jillian Starcher. As a freshman, she was moved to varsity setter and continues to play this position to this day. In volleyball, the setter is a key position, much like a point gaurd in basketball or a quarterback in football. Another words, the setter almost always touches the ball on each possession. The setter is usually the second player to touch the ball, and includes setting up your middle and outside hitters, as well as cleaning up the mess on a bad pass. It takes confidence, athleticism, and control. Any volleyball team will tell you that you are only as good as your setter. Luckily for the Lady Panthers, we have a good one. Starcher has all the qualities necessary to lead the girls volleyball team in 2025.
As a Sophomore, she recorded 230 assists, 81 aces, 199 digs, and 72 kills. "She has been an integral part of the team since she was a freshman," said Head Coach Tammi Igo. "She works hard every day, attends private sessions, workouts, and seeks way, such as camps and showcases, to improve herself."
This summer she earned an invitation to attend a national showcase camp, and then made the All-American Team. As a result, she earned the opportunity to play in Spain next summer. This is a big achievement for Starcher, especially when you consider that she hasn't even started her junior season yet. In addition, she is also a big contributer for the girls softball team, as she tallied the best hitting percentage (.421), had the third best on-base percentage (.450), and added 12 stolen bases. One thing college coaches love is a multi-sport athlete. We look forward to following Starcher throughout her junior year. Stay tuned!! More to come!!
